An increase in the number of listings over the past 12 months has been met with some increase in purchaser activity, resulting in relatively stable prices for small businesses. Most brokers have reported a slight increase in their number of transactions (or at least total value of transactions) over the last year.
Business Values Newsletter uses data from leading business listing website “Seek Commercial”, to report on the number of listings in each state of Australia. It is noted that Seek does not pick up all listings and that some listings are duplicated. What it does provide however, is a consistent basis of data from which to measure change.
Whilst the listing numbers on Seek reveal a significant Australia wide increase of around 27% from 12 months ago, it is interesting to note an 11% fall over the most recent three months. This fall can be attributed to a range of factors including seasonal – at this time of year many business owners are waiting to get their 2015/16 accounts finalised by the accountant before taking a business to the market.
